The Town of Barnstable is working to craft regulations including a proposed zoning overlay district for medical marijuana treatment centers as well as a moratorium on the establishment of those centers. We'd like your thoughts and ideas on the moratorium as well as on the proposed zoning overlay district.

The State Department of Public Health is also working to craft state regulations following the passage of this citizen-sponsored petition. As the DPH considers its guidelines, the Town is considering a moratorium on the establishment of treatment centers. That moratorium will be discussed this week by Town Council.

Statement from the State Department of Public Health
Under the ballot measure passed on November 6th, the Department of Public Health is responsible for regulating medical marijuana in Massachusetts. The Department will work closely with health care and public safety officials to develop smart and balanced policies and procedures over the coming months. We will work carefully, learn from other states' experiences, and put a system in place that is right for Massachusetts.”

We'd like to hear your thoughts about medical marijuana in Barnstable.

We are looking for practical and resourceful ideas about improving our community.
